Our Offer
At ANPS we are committed to equality and endeavour to ensure that every pupil fulfils their potential regardless of background or personal circumstance.
We ensure that our provision is fully inclusive in meeting the needs of all pupils, particularly those that arise from their ethnic heritage, social and economic background, gender, ability or disability.
We aim to:
provide a secure and accessible environment in which pupils flourish and in which all contributions are considered and valued;
include and value the contribution of families to our understanding of equality and diversity;
provide positive non-stereotyping information about gender roles, diverse ethnic and cultural groups and disabilities
improve our knowledge and understanding of issues of anti-discriminatory practice, promoting equality and valuing diversity
provide a wide and balanced curriculum which is differentiated to meet individual needs so that pupils learn and make good progress from their starting point
Have equal access to resources, provision and intervention.
We ensure that provision for SEND children goes beyond the differentiated approaches and learning arrangements that are normally provided as part of quality first teaching. This may take the form of additional support or involvement of specialist staff or support services.
The Head of Safeguarding, Inclusion and SEND (SIS), alongside the Senior Leadership Team, is responsible for the management of provision for identified pupils with SEND. The Head of SIS supports staff to enable them to provide appropriate assessment and focused provision for pupils in their class with SEND.
High quality teaching, differentiated for individual pupils, is the first step in responding to pupils who have SEND and as a result we constantly strive to improve upon our practice.
The local offer is an online resource for parents of children with special educational needs or some kind of disability. It brings together, and publishes in one place, information on the services available in your area.
The local offer will contain information about a wide range of provision including:
education and specialist support
health
social care
training
travel to school and college
housing, employment and leisure opportunities.
The Children and Families Act 2014 requires all councils to publish their local offer from September 2014.

School SEND Information Report
Our vision for children and young people with special needs is the same as for all children and young people – that they achieve well in their early years, at school and in future endeavours; lead happy and fulfilled lives; and have choice and control.
The special needs reforms have implemented a new approach to supporting children with SEND which seeks to join up help across education, health and care.
At Athersley North we aim to offer support at the earliest possible point, with children and their parents or carers fully involved in decisions about their support and what they want to achieve. This will help lead to better outcomes and more efficient ways of working. The school pays due regard to the SEN Code of Practice 2014 and the Equality Act 2010. Copies of the Inclusion and Equality Policies are available to parents upon request.
Athersley North provides a safe, nurturing environment in which relationships are key. Through quality first teaching and provision for SEMH we aim to provide a fully inclusive environment in which barriers to learning are addressed and pupils receive the appropriate provision to meet their needs. The Inclusion Team in partnership with a range of outside agencies have a wealth of experience and are able to deliver a wide range of intervention, specific to need.
